Indie-rock sensations Young the Giant take the stage at SteelStacks Sept. 18, 7 p.m., as part of the 2018 Yuengling Summer Concert Series. Tickets for the show, which takes place at the Levitt Pavilion at the base of the former Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces, are $39. They go on sale starting Tues., May 8, 10 a.m., to ArtsQuest Members and Fri., May 11, 10 a.m., to the public at www.steelstacks.org and 610-332-3378.
Young the Giant first broke through with its 2010 self-titled debut album, which featured the RIAA-gold certified hits, “My Body” and “Cough Syrup.” This was followed by the release of 2014’s Mind Over Matter, which was both a commercial and critical success and prompted The New York Times to call lead singer Sameer Gadhia “one of the great contemporary rock voices.”
The Los Angeles quintet continued to brave new sonic landscapes with its wildly adventurous third album, Home of the Strange. Released in 2016, the band explored its expansive musicianship with boldly eclectic arrangements anchored by a keen melodic presence. The poignant message and bold sonics on the album have been met with critical acclaim, leading to an NPR interview expanding upon the immigrant experience and Rolling Stone referencing “a new-wave sheen that flatters (the band).”
Over the years, the band has toured the world, with its most recent route featuring sold out performances at Radio City Music Hall, The Greek Theatre and Aragon Ballroom. They have become a festival mainstay at outings such as Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza, Outside Lands and Governor’s Ball, among others. Over the course of their career, Young the Giant has charted five singles on the Billboard Alternative Top 10.
The Young the Giant concert is supported by media partners SPIN Radio. For more information on the concert at the Levitt Pavilion, located at 789 First St., Bethlehem, please visit www.steelstacks.org.
